Will it Take Before we have the Will to Do Something?

News Flash – School Shootings in 2024 not the Highest Ever!
According to k12dive.com, “School shootings in 2024 dipped slightly from the year before, but the 330 school shootings recorded last year still mark the second-highest number since 1966.” The article goes on to report that “the highest number of annual school shootings over the past six decades came in 2021-2024, according to the database. That’s despite increased efforts to harden schools with cameras and weapons detection systems, as well as bolster resources to address students’ emotional and mental well-being.”
That highlights the main focus of this site: Children have an awful lot to deal with today. A while back, CNN did a piece on how the schools in Denver, CO are trying to help their students cope amid 21st century stresses and risks. At the most extreme end, gun violence takes an enormous tool on youth. At the other, they live in an incredibly divisive world that is hurtling towards environmental, economic, and societal collapse. Glad I’m not a kid! We started this site years ago with the idea that we would document the impact of gun violence on children and adolescents. Over the years the challenges that they face have exploded, so too must we broaden our view. We would like to see a world in which healthy children grow up to be healthy adults who can contribute positively to their communities and play roles in addressing the many challenges facing 21st century civilization. How Many Children Will it Take before we make them a priority?
